Shared ownership is a popular product across the country, but plays an important role in rural areas, allowing people to buy homes in the communities they want to, when house prices in those areas are unaffordable.
Delivery challenges experienced everywhere are felt more keenly in rural areas, with costs remaining stubbornly high, fewer opportunities for economies of scale, and less land to go around. Housing associations are finding innovative ways to deliver these homes – bringing local stakeholders on side to provide sites, working with local communities to make the case for development and build support for homes for local people.
Join Chris Meadows, Regional Development Manager, Hastoe and Karen Suddes, Senior Home Ownership Officer, Orwell for a lunch and learn session on ‘Overcoming Rural Challenges of Shared Ownership to Meet Local Housing Needs’. Where they will discuss:
- Building relationships with stakeholders to bring forward potential sites.
- Agreeing the criteria, cascade and time frame for a sale.
- Communicating with local residents to build support for the development
There is a huge amount of demand for shared ownership in rural areas and this session will bring together best practice and learning about how to continue to deliver in this increasing market.
